These sponges work well with water based media like watercolors and acrylics.
I use them to lift paint for making clouds, foliage, random patterns,or to apply paint, blend colors and edges.
The look is very random but the sponges are easy to control and are helpful in covering large background areas.
Large sponges can be torn into smaller sizes. Look for names like wool or silk to give you an idea of their texture.
In a later post I’ll cover man-made cellulose and compressed sponges.
If it’s a new sponge rinse it well. There could be a few grains of sand hiding in there.
- Always use the sponges damp
- Rinse well after using to keep soft
